This was the first phase of RNTCP (Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme) with and the program’s focus was to ensure expansion of quality DOTs services in Nagpur district. The components were pursuing quality DOTs expansion and enhancement, addressing TB-HIV, MDR-TB and other challenges, contributing all health system strengthening, involving all health care providers, engaging people with TB, and affected communities, enabling and promoting research. Various group meetings, awareness camps and distribution of IEC were conducted by the organization.
Dr. Shrikant Jichkar, our Guru and guide passed away in a tragic accident. But under his guidance Sahyadri Foundation conducted career guidance programs for students who had passed out HSC. The ‘Chief Minister’s Career gudiance Scheme’ under the mentorship of Dr. Jichkar has been of immense help to many students and we are indebted to him for its success.
The basic purpose of TB – HIV coordination is to ensure optimal synergy between the two programs for the prevention and control of both diseases. The overall goal is to reduce TB related morbidity and mortality in PLHAs while preventing further spread of HIV & TB through collaboration between NACP and RNTCP. 100 outreach workers were appointed including PLHIVs to promote early diagnosis and treatment of TB in HIV infected persons at sub-district levels and vice versa. Screening of patients at home, collecting sputum and linking them to DOTs were the major activities undertaken.
